Join the club
Any SBHS student can join as a general member, and you don't need any experience. More than 145 students have joined so far, and a smaller group of them also compete on our teams. Tryouts for this year's competitive teams are over, so general membership is the way in right now.
Come to a meeting
General meetings are once a month after school, from 2:30 to 4:00 PM. The next two are:
- Wednesday, October 21
- Thursday, November 19
Keep coming
Members who meet the club's requirements can get it on their transcript. The club info doc has the details.
General and competitive members
General members
- Attend monthly club meetings
- Join after-school Aerospace Club events
- Learn things like data analysis, fabrication, circuit design, and how to work through a design
- Work on engineering challenges during meetings
Open now. No tryout, and no experience needed.
Competitive members
- Everything general members do
- Compete on one of our teams
- Put a good amount of time into their project outside meetings
Picked through tryouts in the summer and October. This year's tryouts are over. How tryouts work
Technical skill areas
We use these nine skill areas to place people on competition teams. The numbers line up with the team table below and with the tryout assignments.
1.CAD
Model parts in CAD software and 3D print them.
2.Simulation
Use tools like OpenRocket and CFD to test designs before building them.
3.Computer Science
Write code for electronics and data analysis, mostly in C/C++ and Python.
4.Electronics
Design and build circuits with microcontrollers and sensors.
5.Mechanical
Put prototypes together with your hands.
6.Physics
Use physics, especially aerodynamics and forces.
7.Biology
Use biology to design experiments.
8.Chemistry
Use chemistry to design experiments.
9.Research
Read published studies and design your own experiments.
